DBP-Free Nail Polish, Nontoxic Nail Polish
Ingredients
March 2003
BARIELLE IS ONE STEP AHEAD OF THE TOXIC NAIL POLISH DEBATE, WITH
DBP-FREE NAIL POLISH FORMULATIONS SINCE 2003
In an on-going study conducted by the FDA, "Phthalate esters are present in
many consumer products, and are used in cosmetics, as solvent for fragrances,
suspension agents for solids in aerosols, and skin emollients. Animal studies
showing reproductive and other toxic effects have raised a concern about the
safe use of phthalate esters." 11th Annual FDA Science Forum, April
27-28 2005. Board Number 1-15. Title: Analysis of Consumer Cosmetic Products for
Phthalate Esters.
Great Neck, NY-The European Union ban of phthalate ingredients in cosmetic
formulations due to the possible link to birth defects, cancer and other health
ailments, passed in 2003 and put into action in 2004, has initiated tremendous
debate on whether phthalates should be banned in the United States. Barielle,
leader in the prestige nail, hand and foot care industry, is already one step
ahead: in response to the EU phthalate ban, Barielle was one of the few American
companies to immediately remove DBP (dibutyl-phthalate) as an ingredient from
its nail lacquer formulations in 2003.
Over the past 30 years, Barielle has stood apart in its dedication to
delivering and maintaining quality products with visible results for truly
healthy and beautiful nails, hands and feet. Upon the EU phthalate ban, Barielle
researched alternative nail polish ingredients that would prove the same product
longevity that phthalates afford nail lacquers. Ahead of the current market,
Barielle's skin creams and lacquers are DBP-free, containing formaldehyde,
toluene or dibutyl-phthalate ingredients instead of phthalate esters.
Additionally, their skin creams and nail lacquers are formulated with safe,
effective and natural ingredients including Keratin, Protein, Vitamins, and Oil
and Plant Extracts. "Though it has not been proven that the small amounts of
phthalate formulated in nail lacquers are harmful, any speculation was enough to
initiate Barielle to remove it as an ingredient from our products," says Mark
Pollock, President of Barielle. "We have even incorporated our DBP-free
philosophy into the launch of our new color polish line, Shades by BarielleTM."
