INCI Dictionary

Stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients.

 

 

Incurvated Nails

Is a nail deformity in which nails are curved and digging into the skin.

 

 

Independent Contractor

Independent Contractor is a person who is self-employed (as a nonemployee) and is not bound by rules and regulations as an employee. They must pay their own Social Security and Medicare taxes.

 

 

Indie Or Indie Polish

Indie Polish refers to polish which is handmade and is directly sold by creators online.

 

 

Ingrown Hair

A hair that grows back into the skin, causing inflammation.

An ingrown nail occurs when the nail grows into the skin followed by pain and swelling at the affected nail.

Compounds not containing carbon.

 

 

Intercellular

Occurring between the cells.

 

 

Inverse Pterygium

It is nail abnormality characterized by adherence of nailbed to nail plate.

 

 

Iridescent

Substances that show rainbow like effects, that is different colors can be seen from different angles and depending on light conditions all seven colors of the rainbow can be seen.

 

 

Irritant

Substance that causes discomfort to the body.

Itraconazole

Itraconazole is an antifungal medication.

 

 

Jasmine

Jasmine is a climbing plant with white flowers, because of its pleasant smell it is widely used in cosmetics and perfumery.

 

 

Jelly

Type of nail paint that has sheer color and shiny appearance.

 

 

Jelly Sandwich

A nail art in which glitter polish is sandwiched in between two layers of jelly polish.

 

 

Jojoba

Jojoba oil and extracts are derived from the seeds of the jojoba shrub. Because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties it is widely used in cosmetic and hair care industry.

 

 

Juliette Wrap

An old method of nail enhancement in which nails were wrapped with paper to give an acrylic appearance.

 

 

Keratin

Keratin is a protein that helps in forming nails.

 

 

Koilonychia

It is a nail disease which leaves them thin and flat or sometimes concave in shape.

 

 

Kolinsky

Hair of kolinsky (species of weasel) tail are used in making cosmetic brushes.

 

 

Konadicure

Nail art characterized by stamping pre-designed images.
