Our nail term glossary is a resource provided to our customers which offers simple definitions for various terms used in reference to nail care.

TERM	DEFINITION
Walk-In	When a person or a customer arrives without an appointment.
Wash	To clean something, nail technicians use this term to define thinning nail paint.
Water Based or All-Natural Nail Polish	Nail polishes that are non-toxic means they are free from harmful chemicals.
Water Decals/ Waterslide Decals	A decal design that can be transferred to another surface by soaking it in water. Here water decals refer to nail decals that need water to transfer.
Water-Cured Acrylic	Nail acrylics which need water to cure or harden.
Watercolor Effect	Nail art in which nail technicians create watercolor effect on nails.
Waterfall Effect	Nail art in which nail technicians create waterfall effect on nails.
Waterless Manicure	A manicure in which no water is used.
Watermarble Effect	Nail art in which nail technicians create watermarble effect on nails.
Wattage	Amount of electrical power expressed in watts.
Waxing	To remove unwanted body hair by using sticky substance.
Wellness Services	Services offered by salons to meet better mental and physical health.
Wetting	Ability of a liquid to keep up contact with a solid surface.
Wrap Your Tips	Applying nail polish from left to right on the nail tip.
Wraps	Cloth or paper that are added to the nail with adhesive to strengthen it.
WTAC	Work Top Air Cleaner.
Yeast	Yeasts are single-celled microorganisms, they can cause nail diseases making them brittle and weak.
Yellow Nail Syndrome	Yellow Nail Syndrome is a nail disorder characterized by thickened or malformed yellow or greenish nails. In some cases, it leads to separation of the nail from the nail bed, usually starting from the tip of the nail.
Yellowing Nail	Yellowing of nails are caused due to fungal infection and sometimes leads to separation of the nail from the nail bed.
Ylang-Ylang	Ylang Ylang oil is helpful in killing bacteria and prevent nail infections.
Zinc	Zinc deficiency leads to white spots and change in nail colors. Zinc also promotes healthy nail growth.
